The design thinking studio is comprised of 8 students and 4 professors from different disciplines across Elon University’s campus that have come together for an immersive semester. We are collaborating with community leaders in the Wellness and Food collaboratives in Alamance County to work towards solving complex social problems. Throughout this process, students are learning design thinking, professional skills, and are immersing themselves in the Alamance County community.
From in-class design challenges to community work, we are constantly tackling new projects. The beginning of the course consisted of various challenges that combined the process of design thinking with our liberal arts education to go beyond the boundaries of the traditional educational process. Challenges have ranged from redesigning the best name tag to empathizing with students and community members regarding transportation issues. Throughout the semester, we have identified existing challenges in the community and developed relationships with community partners and members. Using our connections and putting our heads together, we, as a cohort of diverse minds, aim to put a process in place that addresses a real community problem.
Students, faculty, and community partners have the opportunity to get involved with the B•HIVE. Whether you are interested in learning more about the program, observing a day in the studio, or partnering with us to solve a complex issue, we would love to have you! Please do not hesitate to reach out and contact us with any inquiries you may have.
